    Approach

I mainly practice intensive short-term dynamic psychotherapy (ISTDP), an evidenced-based therapy that can help you access emotions by letting go of defences that no longer serve you, for emotional freedom, growth, and lasting change. My approach is deeply compassionate – appreciating the complexities of what it is to be human – alongside directness, to help get to the core of your suffering.

Prior to psychology I practiced for years as a naturopath, which has given me a holistic view of mental health. I love what I do and feel humbled by the courageous step patients take to share their emotional world.

This will help guide treatment planning, which could include brief or longer-term psychological treatment depending on what you are wanting.

          Approach

I will collaborate with you in a supportive and non-judgemental way, to help you create meaningful and lasting change. My therapeutic style is warm, relaxed, and practical. I will tailor each session to your needs and goals, focusing on strategies that you can apply both inside and outside the therapy room.

My practice is grounded in evidence-based treatments, with Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy (CBT) as my primary approach. I also draw on therapies such as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Schema Therapy.

Together, we will work on developing skills to recognise and change unhelpful patterns of thinking and behaviour that drive unwanted feelings. I also place an emphasis on addressing deeper beliefs (e.g. “I am not good enough,” “I am unworthy”) that can keep people feeling stuck or held back.

What motivates me most as a psychologist is seeing my clients gradually gain confidence, apply new tools, and notice real improvements in their lives.

In our early sessions, we will work together to understand what has brought you to therapy, and how we can work towards meaningful change. Where appropriate, I also integrate other therapeutic frameworks, tailoring therapy to your particular needs.

A cornerstone of being an engaged therapist is attentiveness to emotional patterns as they emerge in our sessions. While this work can involve challenging feelings, I place strong emphasis on safety, collaboration, and working at a pace that feels manageable and supportive.

          Approach

I have worked for many years as a psychologist and clinical neuropsychologist in mental health and trauma treatment settings. I currently hold a senior role at Alfred Health working with young people with mental health difficulties and intellectual disability.

I have undertaken further training in psychoanalysis and psychodynamic psychotherapy. These modalities work with the deeper sources of suffering, rather than symptoms alone. They can be particularly well-suited to people who may have more longstanding problems of living and relating, or who have tried other therapies.

In the initial sessions, I will seek to hear about what brings you to therapy, as well as your current circumstances and history, following which we can discuss an approach to our work together. Therapy comprises a particular way of speaking and listening that seeks, over time, to have an effect on suffering and to establish a more solid inner foundation for life.
