    Approach

I practice intensive short-term dynamic psychotherapy (ISTDP), an evidenced-based therapy that can help a person to access suppressed emotions by letting go of unhelpful strategies that no longer serve them, for emotional freedom and growth. I also draw on cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT) and my knowledge of biological factors. Prior to psychology I practiced for years as a naturopath, which has given me a holistic view of mental health. I love what I do and feel humbled by the oftentimes big step patients take to share parts of their emotional world.

      Approach

My approach to therapy is to work collaboratively with my clients in a supportive and non-judgemental way to facilitate positive change in their lives. I consider myself to have a warm and relaxed therapeutic style, and prefer to tailor treatment to the goals and needs of my clients.

My practice is informed by evidence-based therapies, with my primary treatment modality being Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy (CBT). I also incorporate aspects Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Schema Therapy (ST), and sleep intervention into my practice.

This means that what we often do in sessions is develop skills in understanding, recognising, and changing unhelpful patterns of thinking or behaviours which can lead to unwanted feelings.

      Approach

I have worked for more than 20 years as a clinical psychologist and held senior positions at Royal Melbourne Hospital, Spectrum (Personality Disorder Service for Victoria), Project Air and the Psychologist’s Registration Board. This has given me a deep understanding of the profession.

When we initially meet, I will seek to understand the nature of your suffering, what brings you looking for help at this time, how you have coped in the past, as well as further information about your history. This will help guide treatment planning, which could include brief or longer-term psychological treatment depending on what you are wanting.

I also provide professional supervision including supervision for registrars working towards area practice endorsement.

          Approach

I have always been curious about the complexities of personality, emotion, and personal growth.

To tailor therapy to meet the unique needs of each individual, my approach draws from cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT), dialectical behaviour therapy (DBT), schema and psychodynamic informed frameworks.

Above all else, I seek to provide a therapeutic space that is validating and supportive of change.

          Approach

I specialise in working with couples using Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy (EFCT). EFCT is an effective evidence based couples therapy which recognises that emotions play a big part in your relationship.

They show you when you feel your boundaries have been crossed, and when you feel hurt or unloved. They also show you when you feel appreciated, valued and supported.

I use EFCT to help you focus on your core emotions so you can make sense of repeating negative cycles and patterns in your relationship. I also use attachment science to help you understand how the love you did or didn’t receive in childhood affects your adult relationships.

EFCT is a powerful tool and can help you to gain a better understanding of yourself, your partner and how you relate to each other. Through EFCT, I can teach you how to communicate your needs with your partner so you can both feel respected, supported, trusted, valued, loved and deeply connected.
